Wanted, 4 stroke petrol generator
« on: November 12, 2009, 08:47:03 PM »
I am looking for a good working 4 stroke petrol genny with a power output of over 850W.

PM me if you have anything that fits the bill with a price. Don't be offended if you offer me a Honda suitcase one for £650 and I have to decline.  ;D

I have one of these, about £150.  Only have it for dire emergencies, so not sure how great it is for a days worth of camping use.  Cheap enough though.  Sorry, not for sale.

doesn't look like they are commonly sold new at the moment.  Practical caravan has the 2400w @£250.

However the 1200 can be had on fleabay......

I hope you are not going to be one of those nasty noisy caravanners with a generator going all day  ;)
We've used the solar cell even in the winter and it was enough to keep us going for 3 days - even when we only had the briefcase one .

The problem we have is that where the van is stored, we don't have facilities to charge the battery up from the mains. This means we have to take the battery out of the very snug compartment and take it home to charge. The genny will be for winter rallies where we will be using the 12v electric pretty much full time and no way of topping up.

Try Collins in Nottingham.

It is a cash and carry, but basically turn up and they give you a card. If not, we could meet up and I can take you in.

We got a 5KVA from there for a couple of hundred quid.

They will be able to tell you if they have anything in. It is also a great place to pick up bits to leave in caches.

John connected ours up so that we can leave the solar cell inside the caravan when we are not away so that the battery is fully charged when we want it.
We did the christmas rally at Lincoln last year, Thursday to Sunday all on the 12V, admittedly we don't use tv, but we do use the computer to watch DVD's, plotting caching trips etc, the pump for showers, lighting etc.

Struck lucky and picked up the last genny at B + Q for the bargain price of £50.
Not the most powerful of gennys but it will put some charge into the battery during the winter rallies.
