Ding - Bobbinz has it. Was expecting someone to say these gaurd bars are the number 6. But unlikely the bars representing the 6 the spaces are different

On 10 and 13 character ISBNs the last character serves as a check for the rest of the number, and can be one of eleven alphanumeric characters.
