I take it 7b is caches within a 1.25km radius. Does that expect a cache at the centre point, as that could affect the figures.
No, YOU should be in the middle, no need for a cache to be there.

7a - Surely the square is 13 caches wide by 13 high (13 x 160m = 2.08km)

under the conditions of the question 13x160m is 14 caches! (one at each end)
... means 196, bu there is still room for more.

anotherhint about the (theoretically estimated maximum)

2.1km square, including caches at the rim, means 2.26km square with all caches fully inside.

2.26km square has 5.1076 sqkm

1 cache needs pi*r²= pi*0.08km= 0.0201sqkm

meaning 5.1076/0.0201=254 caches.

so the expected value should be between 196 and 254 ;)

This thread was supposed to help traffic on the site, not scare people off with a piggin' advanced pure maths lesson!

Can we move on please....

New rule #2....any more than two failed published answers on the same question.....users go offline, or answer is published please.  Previous question setter retains the right to ask another question.

Folks, it's just a light hearted (lite difficulty ...equivalent of diff 3 or less. ;D ;) quiz.

New question:

How many reviewers are there in U.K today? 31-Oct-2009 (please name them if you could with their rev-names)
How many reviewers are there in Germany today? 31-Oct-2009 (w/o names  :D)

I'll give the point to RoPeHe, indeed, there are two trainees.

In Germany we have 21 now, but this is hard to know.

So gon on with a new question.

Ok.  How many different types of Geocoins currently exist in the Groundspeak system?

Note: different metals, finishes, colours and such like variations are not distinguished.

However, there may be more than one Geocoin Type with the same name.

This may not be an exact science, so I'll ding anyone who gets reasonably close to the number I'm expecting.

I'll go for about 3,500.

I'll give it a bit longer, to see if anyone can get closer.
