USPS email Scam
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:28:57 PM »
A word of warning. I have had an email supposedly from the US Postal Service claiming that there was an undelivered parcel waiting for me and that I should print off the postal receipt and take it to the post office.
I was intregued so I downloaded the Zip folder and browsed it to find that they were seriously expecting me to click on the exe file to "print" the receipt.
Obviously this is a virus ridden email so don't get caught out. Even if you are expecting a parcel from the US.  ;)

Turns out the US postal service don't deliver in Northampton, shame really as they'd probably do a better job than RM.

Ive been seeing these and the like for a while now its not just USPS you need to look out for fake UPS, Fedex, DHL and well any delivery firm that you are not expecting a package from. Ive seen 1st hand emails from all the big delivery firms that have attachments that are loaded with virus and malware.

I've had quite a few of these as well, including one recently claiming to come from the Royal Mail (with a .io (Indian Ocean) address on it).

I also had one yesterday saying I had won a top of the range BMW in BMW's free end of year draw. Just send details etc......

How many people actually fall for this ??? Too many I suspect. :(

And today, a different one.
This one says that its from the HM Revenue and Customs. Apparently they owe me some extra money and just want me to fill in the form with my bank details on so that they can pay it to me  ::)

First thing at work when we are all checking our emails we have a forfeit of making the tea to whoever has 'won' the least from the spam that morning  :)

Nice one SSR.
I never normally get spam like that so I would never be making the tea  :D

I like replying to the email ones asking for my account name and password, use the user name 'Iama' and password 'scammingc***' or something similar. Purile I know, but it entertains me to imagine some guy in Lagos trying to get into an account. I wonder if it would flag up at the bank? lol

The problem with replying to them is that you have just verified your email address to them which will lead to you getting more spam.

But I don't reply to them, just fill in the forms they link to, and put abusive details in ;) They don't know who of their target emails was the one that replied.

Or do they? lol
