Logging caches by SMS - The TextMarks SystemThis is an SMS-based system. Send all texts to 41411 with the prefix of GEOC for geocache postings and to log geocaches. Ignore the text "Rply Y to subscribe to this TextMark." since it is related to the Textmarks.com web site and unrelated to Groundspeak functionality.
This is a "free" service for you although SMS texting fees may apply based on your cell phone subscription. It is also a service that is supported by TextMarks' own advertisments. Groundspeak don't have any control over the ads presented to you so don't complain about them.
Using TextMarks for the first time- Send an SMS message "GEOC" to 41411
- The response should give you a device identifier and pin to link to your Geocaching.com account.
- Visit your "my account" page and click on the "Access My Field Notes" link (on the right-hand side of the page)
- Click on "Link Trimble's Geocache Navigator to your account." This is a general purpose link that works with SMS.
- Enter in the device identifier from the SMS message and the pin provided to you to link to your account.
- That's it! Any future SMS messages will work with your Groundspeak account on Geocaching.com
Looking up a GeocacheIf you want some basic information for a cache, text "GEOC ?[GC CODE]" (no quotes) to 41411. There is an upper text limitation so you may not get a whole lot back of interest.
If you want a hint, text "GEOC ![GC CODE]" to 41411
Logging Caches with Field NotesField notes are a way to log a cache without posting a log on the cache listing. This allows you to log your find "out in the field" without posting it to the cache listing's page immediately. It also allows you to provide additional details in the comfort of your own home.
The difference between field notes and cache logs also means you can notify people that you are caching while you are out in the field. It's a fun way to share your experience with others who are also geocaching at the same time. More social features for field notes will be added in the future.
Logging a GeocacheSend the SMS message "GEOC @[GC CODE] [SOME TEXT]" (no quotes). Replace the [GC CODE] text with the code of the geocache and add any optional text notes. These will be treated as a find log.
Posting a DNF (Did Not Find) for a GeocacheSend the SMS message "GEOC x[GC CODE] [SOME TEXT]" (no quotes). Replace the [GC CODE] text with the code of the geocache and add any optional text notes. These will be treated as not found.

n" with your number without the zero. For example if my number was 01234567890, I would replace "
n" with 1234567890.
ChargesMost networks provide this service completely free, but some do not. It is advisable to check with your own provider to check this out before using the service heavily.
Other NetworksIf your network is not listed, phone them and ask for their "Email to SMS Gateway" and they should be able to give you the address. If you find a new one in this way please let me know!
