Speeding
« on: October 10, 2011, 10:18:25 PM »
Last Thursday I was driving to the East Coast, and was driving through Conningsby, and got flashed by a fixed speed camera. My SatNav said I was doing 36 mph, and I saw some 30 mph signs later on.

Not sure yet if I will be getting a NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution, not naked in public!)  but I will wait and see.

On the way back on Sunday, I looked at the speed limit sign immediately preceding the camera and found that it was defeced, having what looked like paper stuck on and then partially ripped off. This covered the number 30 partially, making it difficult to read.

Reckon it's worth appealing?

Only if you have photos of the proof and the defaced one is facing you in the direction in which you were travelling when you were flashed :)

worth a try, get a picture though. But if it is a built up area and there are street lamps the signs are largely irrelevant.

Wait and see.  Some of the boxes are just set to flash and dont have a camera in them.  If you can, go get a photo of the speed sign.  Definitely worth an appeal if it was defaced.

Yes I have a picture on my phone of the offending sign, and it was in direction of travel, probably about 100 yards before the camera. I will see how to get a picture off my phone to post here.

Conningsby is a village, but not an area that is obviously 'built up', particularly as it was at 11:30 pm and I am not a local to the area.

ALWAYS ignore the first nip, they send a reminder. I once ignored the first and never heard anything.

Either that or don't speed ;)

hehehe, 10 points? Mine's clean at the moment, well it wouldn't have been but I went on one of those speed awareness courses a year or so ago, caught doing 36 on a 30 in Sussex, and the one before that was in Derby where I was doing 36 in a 40!! Bit of a theme here I think!!

I got flashed by a camera whilst on holiday, near Southampton.

It was in a 40 limit - But I was only doing about 34 'cos I was slowing for the 30 limit up ahead about 300 yards beyond the camera.

Weird, but it had me worried even tho' I knew I wasn't breaking the limit.

I think some of them are just set to flash at random to remind drivers that they are there.

Some are set in national speed limits but at a lower speed to catch lorries and trailers that are exceeding the lower limit.

You might get the option to do a 'Speed Awareness' course...

Unless you've already done one.
